The Portage Township Schools Transportation Department is dedicated to providing students and staff the safest and most efficient means of transportation possible.
PTS TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
During the 2016-2017 school year, we transported over 8400 students to and from school daily. We transport to the eight elementary schools, two middle schools and the high school here in Portage, this includes transporting to several schools including : Morgan, Chesterton, Wheeler, Boone Grove, Hobart and Valparaiso everyday. We also share bi-annually the transportation to the Indiana School for the Deaf and Blind in Indianapolis once a week. This adds up to over 7000 miles traveled everyday. That equates to over 2.6 million pick-ups and drop-offs as well as over 1.2 million miles traveled by our drivers last school year. Those numbers do not include the hundreds of fieldtrips and athletic trips taken around the region and state. In order to accomplish this we have a fleet of 104 buses, maintained by four mechanics and managed by an office staff of seven people.
In addition to the transportation of our students, the Transportation Department also manages and maintains the fuel site for municipal vehicles in Portage Township. We dispense nearly 125,000 gallons of fuel annually.
